This Insights with... series of case studies has been put together to celebrate the innovative learning and teaching activities DIT staff are engaged in with their students, and to inspire all who read them.

Each month during the academic year, a new case study will be added to the list and will be featured on the LTTC website. Each case study will explore the nature of the innovation, how it is implemented, and the benefits and drawbacks of the approach. It will provide also some advice for anyone looking to implement this same approach with their own students.

‌Using storytelling tools for student presentations: Valerie Hascoet
Valerie Hascoet, a language lecturer in the School of Languages, Law and Social Sciences, talks about how she uses presentation or storytelling tools with integrated voice recording for the purpose of creating short videos with a voiceover in the learner’s target language. 

‌Using wikis for collaborative learning: Kathleen Hughes
Kathleen Hughes lectures in the School of Marketing and her case study sets out how she uses wikis to facilitate group work.

The Global Classroom: Paul Bourke
Paul lectures in the School of Computing and his case study talks about his recent experiences as module leader on a specialised distributed team project module called The Global Classroom, which is delivered fully online. 

Using YouTube, Smartphone and QR Codes to demonstrate survey equipment for revision: Audrey Martin
Audrey Martin lectures in Geographic Science and Geospatial Engineering and talks here about using YouTube, Smartphones and QR Codes to allow students to self-learn and progress their field based project work without the need for a demonstrator and/or lecturer.

Using Peerwise: Nevan Bermingham
Nevan lectures in the School of Hospitality Management & Tourism and focuses on the technical science area – Information technology, Computer Science and Electronic Engineering. This case study details how Nevan has used the Peerwise system as an assessment.

Using TurningPoint classroom polling ("clickers" and smart phones) with accountancy students in DIT: Alice Luby
Alice is a lecturer in Accounting in the College of Business, DIT Aungier Street. This case study outlines how Alice uses classroom polling software (aka "clickers") with her students, and includes lots of interesting comments on the experience from her students.

Using Problem Based Learning in Social Care: Anne Marie Shier and Dave Williams lecture on the B.A (Hons.) in Social Care at the School of Languages, Law and Social Sciences. This case study sets out how they implemented PBL in their context.

The site was created as part of a National Forum project in collaboration with CIT, DIT, UCD, IT Tralee and UCC.
