The curriculum challenge – aligning learning outcomes; teaching-learning strategies and assessment

Overview

This workshop will focus on the process of deciding the configuration of a module from learning outcomes stage through development of teaching-learning experiences and effective assessment.  The place of a module within a programme suite of modules will also be explored. This workshop is therefore suitable for both individuals and programme teams.

Key areas of focus will include:
  • Constructive alignment –designing methods of assessing students with a view to increasing effectiveness in enhancing your students’ learning
  • Assessment for learning – what kinds of knowledge, skills, abilities, values are we seeking evidence of?
  • Reflection on current practice, and planning for module redesign that works for you
At the end of this workshop you will be able to:
  • review the main principles of effective assessment and constructive alignment
  • explore different methods of assessing students with a view to enhancing their learning
  • reflect on current practice, and plan for redesign

This workshop is suitable for all academic staff, but is particularly useful for programme teams.
