Webcourses: Assessments and the GradeCentre


Would you like to set online quizzes drawing on pools of questions? Provide fast online feedback to students? Are you currently setting assessments online and need some help with the Grade Centre? Then this workshop is for you!

Assessment is said to drive learning, and this workshop provides tips and strategies for embedding student-engaging assessment into your teaching practice. The session will look at the benefits of self-testing for students and also how to make full use of the assessment features in webcourses for both summative and formative assessment.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this hands-on workshop participants will know how to:

  • create an online test (with question types such as multiple choice, fill in the blank, short paragraph etc.)
  • create online tests using question sets allowing you to deliver questions randomly
  • create online surveys (useful for getting anonymous feedback from students)
  • set criteria specifying when assessments are available, and to whom
  • make best use of the "test, surveys and pools" tool in webcourses
  • make best use of the Grade Centre in webcourses

All academic staff.


Participants should have previously completed an "Introduction to webcourses" workshop or be current users of webcourses. Participants are encouraged to bring some sample questions to the workshop.
