Wikis in education: Learning with the webcourses wiki

Overview

A wiki is a web technology that allows a web site to be collaboratively constructed and edited with no specialist tools and very little technical know-how. This workshop explores the use of wikis for collaborative teaching and learning in higher education. The workshop focus will be on the wiki tool available in webcourses.

Learning outcomes

On completion of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Contribute to and edit a wiki in webcourses
  • setup and administer a wiki in webcourses
  • identify strategies for fostering collaboration using wikis 
  • outline ways in which wikis can be used to enhance teaching and learning 
  • recognise potential downsides to using wikis for learning

Any pre-requisites / advance preparation required?

Previous experience of webcourses would be helpful. At a minimum you should know how to log into webcourses and have access to at least one webcourses module.
