As part of the Propeller prize fund, Darek Fortas completed an eight week residency at The Copper House Gallery, in preparation for his solo photographic exhibition. Coal Story.

The inaugural Fire Propeller Competition, an annual award open to all final year visual arts students, was held in June 2011. The 2011 Propeller judges were John Duncan editor of Source magazine, Trish Lambe from The Gallery of Photography, Peter Reddy of Redman AKA and The Copper House Gallery curator Leszek Wolnik.The first Propeller exhibition was launched on 20th July 2011 at The Copper House Gallery and featured work from the five Propeller finalists: winner Darek Fortas and the shortlisted artists who included Dee O’Shea NCAD, Dorje Deburgh IADT, Ronan McCall IADT and Anna Wickham DIT.
